I'm sorry, did Dell try to downplay an Alienware purchase as much as possible without expressly denying it? You couldn't listen to vicious rumors, it was insisted. We, like so many other sites reported the speculation anyway.
Lo and behold, Dell has announced it's acquisition of Alienweare, and is anyone really surprised that the official press release would mention "Alienware has tremendous brand appeal..."? We told you so! Come discuss this more in our forums. |

Dell has finally found a way to sell AMD machines without angering Intel
They still need to find a way to get Opterons into Dell servers ... however, with Intel's new Core CPUs that are smoking Athlon64's in benchmarks at the latest IDF, this may be a moot issue. |

Yep, pay now or pay later. From the early sounds of the Socket AM2 testing, it seems AMD is now having to deal with the DDR2 issues that the P4 had. Of course, it's still got an on-die memory controller and the DDR2 market will be more mature, so it might be able to work things out better.
But yeah, if the IDF numbers hold up, those new chips will be smoking. It'll be good to see some real comeptition again, and not just PR spins about who the technology leader is. Personally, I'm really looking forward to the 64-bit meroms coming out. |
