This is really sad. Ubi Soft has issued cease and desist orders to some popular free download sites. Apparently, Ubi Soft has an agreement to allow GameSpy to be the exclusive demo provider until Nov 21st.

Now Ubi Soft does have the legal right to do anything they want with the demo, including choosing who will be the exclusive download provider. Selecting an exclusive site might have been okay if FilePlanet had more capacity for free public downloads (since it is a free demo), but those of you who have waited hours for FilePlanet downloads know this isn't the case.

You'd think Ubi Soft would have learned that it is important to have several download sites lined up for a big demo launch after the debacle with the Black Thorn demo (where our own File Retreat helped to bail out Ubi's clogged-up servers). To Ubi's credit, the subsequent launch of the Ghost Recon demo actually went quite well because many sites were on-board for the launch.

Overall, I don't think Ubi Soft made a particularly wise decision shutting down the mirrors, as this will generate bad will from fans and generous download sites like 3D Gamers and FileShack who host and thus promote demos for other Ubi Soft games at no extra cost to Ubi Soft.

UBI Soft made a HORRIBLE decision!!!

Thumbs down to you!

If, and that's ONLY if gamespy/fileplanet had *better* faster servers there would be no room to complain, but in this case wating for hours to download it is not very cool. Then you get bomb bared with unwanted ads, and popups from a site your forced to download it! As of right now 10:30pm, PST It will take me over 2 hours to get first in queue, and then prolly another 45-1 hour to download the game. And yes I have broadband! Why wait when we(loyal fans) could be downloading it from a faster/better location? JEESH!

I don't think this is how you should treat your loyal VERY loyal fans!

I wonder how much money gamspy forked over, or what they did to get this? Pfft

*above comments are mine, and mine alone!
