Nice review.
I have WinXp pro installed and GR crashes randomly for me to. Ive played for a few hours with out a problem and sometimes ive had it crash 3 times in an hour. They always require a reboot. It locked up so bad one time it erased my control and graphic settings in the game.
Other than that the game rocks. Hiding in the bushes is a whole new level in GR.

The review is terrible. Ghost Recon is the black sheep of this series. Realism and integrity has been done away with for a more arcade feel and a much less realistic experience. Military inaccuracies run rampant, and makes one wonder if they did ANY research whatsoever? For an example: Take the OICW. The game touts the weapon as 'cutting edge'. Guess what, The OICW has been employed in certain missions on todays AND yesterdays battlefields for a few years now, and the US ARMY projects that it will replace the basic infantry rifle (M16A2) by the year 2008. Guess what year the game takes place in!!! 2008! Cutting edge, huh?

This game sucks! I do admit that the swaying trees look good and the soldiers are very natural but why do they move so slowly. This is the most irritating thing. They can't jump too! The map is also stupid, it can't be switched off without pressing esc 2 times (as far as i get it). The sound of footsteps (for instance on the roof of a building) is not very lifelike. The graphics in the forest is good but i can't say the same thing about the city - it is too simpfied. I advise you to try the game named Venom: The Outbreak made in Russia, it features better sound and forest and indoor graphics and a better gameplay (it's also a tactical shooter but but with a somewhat arcade quality). The number of enemies in GR is too small and they tend to defend themselvs mostly rather than attack (if compared to Delta Force 1 or 2 or Venom for example). You can complete a misson in several minutes - that is not enough. And finally what's that crap about Russia being empirialistic and aggressive and all that stuff. Those dorks have remained their cold war mentality. While here in Russia we make games about cooperation of Russian and US forces against terrorism americans produce such pieces of crap. What you have just said shows that you don't know JACK about real life Counter Terrorist groups.
Few questions for you to ponder: 1.)You ever seen SWAT/SERT or Counter Terrorist teams jump while there clearing a room, or doing a stealth or dynamic entry?
2.) You ever walked on the roof of your house and heard someone on it? If not then you must be in a commercial building or just deaf. If you listen carefully you can actually hear where the person is standing and what type of shoes they are wearing... such as boots or regular shoes.
Answers: 1 - NO! WTF you don’t jump! If you have seen them jump then A they were screwing around or B it was because something went to sh*t. 2 - Com'on give me a break of course you can hear footsteps on a building.
You can judge the graphics and quality of GR/DS however you like, but it all boils down to the specs of your system and how you have things set. For some the game might look like crap while others the game will look awesome with full res, all shadows etc..
Not very many terrorists for you to kill? 50 or so is not enough? jeesh.. what are you using cheat codes on a n00b setting? Set your game to elite and then tell me that there is not enough guys for you to kill and that the game sucks.
Please don’t EVEN relate this game to DF. GR is way superior to the game in everyway!
Do you happen to have a link to "Venom" I would like to check it out. Never heard of the game and I want to see why you think this game is so much better.
Take what I say however you want, but I'm sure a lot will feel the same way about GR in relation to it being "realistic." GR is probably one of the most realistic games available now. I think you should do some reading about it and see what GR is really about. Have you followed the R6 series at all?

How fast do you expect them to move? 30 mph? Come on! The speed they move is normal.

I would pick pick realism over arcade anyday. It so much more fun and well....real! If you are looking for games where you run around aimlessly with a fire blaster, then you in the wrong place.

Actually most of the mission take about 20 minutes. If you are doing them is several minutes then do it on elite.

If you had actually taken the 30 seconds to read what is going on, it takes place in 2008 and an ultranationalist group has taken power to restore the soviet union. Next time, do some research before you come here or anywhere else to bash a game that you have played for maybe 2 minutes.

...a little too defensive? Ya see... these people wanted to be original, not just have a couple guys go out and kill mask-wearing terrorists as always; they made a better plot. And anyway... chill out... it's just a game....

Thanks for your comments. About realism. I was not talking about realism actually. When i say that those guys are too slow or that they can't jump i am talking about the pleasure you get playing the game - not about realism. You can't achieve real realism here anyways. The guys move really slow if compared to the majority of games and you have to keep another button pressed all the time to make them move at a more or less bearable speed - that's uncomfortable. I am not talking about realism, i don't give a damn to anti terrorist missions, i just wanna tell you that i don't like to keep two buttons pressed while 1 button could be just enough. About jumping. It is the player's choice to jump or not under certain surcumstances. If you think that this is dangerous you are not forced to jump but have you ever seen a 3d shooter where you can't jump? This is another limitation. About Venom. It's a tactical shooter in which you must manage a team of two soldiers against humans infected by some extraterrestial parasites. The game has splendid forest graphics just like ghost recon. The sound is also very good, when you switch to the sniper mode the sound volume increases with the image. The opponents are pretty inteligent. There are lots of other interesting features in the game. I think you can find a demo at www.cnet.com About comparing Delta Force to Ghost Recon. I do understand that these games are different. DF is not a tactical game. But I like it better than GR, may be i am not very good at tactical games, i just like to do some shooting. I am not talking about DF3 which is absolutely stupid. They say that the third sequel of any series must be stupid. Alex Imekov

You just don't look into things now do you?
You complain and complain and you don't ever trying and figure things out. You don't read up and find facts before you start bitching... you just go at it and hope you are right.. Start reading some background, and find the facts before you start bitching about something.
You can turn the option on in GR/DS in the Options/Gameplay screen to make it so you can ALWAYS RUN!!!!
I hope that will stop your bitching about GR and finnaly realize that GR is one of the closest games to realism.

Every reason you have given, we have given you an answer.
What other reason do you have to why this game sucks? You gota have some backup to your reasoning before you start making statments... You can't just say something sucks without and reason.
I'll check out your game, and come back and tell you what I think.

I think realism will beat out arcade anti-realism any day.

Listen, if you are so mad about realism, stab yourself or put a real bullet through your head each time you get shot in the game, OK? Realism is reaism and game is game. I good unrealistic game will always beat a boring and limited realistic game. People play to get relaxed after a hard working day, not to learn your dogdamn anti terrorist tactics. Thanks for the coments anyway. Do you have anything to do with the game developers?
