Rainbow Six: Vegas will be on display during this week's E3 Expo, and IGN has the first gameplay footage of the game cut straight from the E3 Xbox 360 build.

In further news, GameSpot is reporting that the Xbox and PS2 versions of R6: Vegas have been canned, and Ubi has shifted all development to next-gen (Xbox 360 and PS3) platforms. There are no plans for a PC version of R6: Vegas.

**UPDATE: Team Xbox has a high-def version of the official R6: Vegas trailer (73MB) here.

That E3 press kit is incorrect about R6: Vegas coming out on the PC. The R6 community manager has confirmed the next PC version of R6 will be done by a sepearate dev team.

Rage posted this over at AGR-S.com:

Geiger:
"Actually Rage, The PC version isn't there because Ubi cared and listened enough to devote a completely different development project to just the PC version. Thus, it needs development past when the console versions will be ready and though I honestly have no idea where it is in development, one could easily assume there wouldn't be anything worth showing during the E3 time frame."

Personally, I think it's a wise decision R6: Vegas won't come to the PC, as that is not what PC fans are looking for. Developing R6: Vegas for the PC would be a waste of time and resources, and would more than likely get a similar poor reception that Lockdown did.

Most likely, but the majority of the R6 community is nothing but whiners. I liked the Vegas movies because there are a lot of nice features that I wouldn't mind seeing in R6:5, and it feels like a step in the right direction again. But I've also stopped expecting new R6 games to feel anything like Rogue Spear. That has saved me atleast one heartache.

Exactly. You've hit the nail on the head. If people can just drop their expectations that the next R6 will be like Rogue Spear (or perhaps for consolers - Black Arrow) then they can appreciate that Vegas looks to be a great game.

The whining is not just limited to some long-time fans, but to the gaming press too. It appears that the basis upon why most of the media slammed Lockdown was because it went a different direction than R6/Rogue Spear/RvS.

Yes, true. But what if RSE/Ubi actually made a sequel to Rogue Spear, what would the press have to say about it? Would they be happy about it, or would they complain about it being just a shameless copy of RS:RS to get the most money possible out of the franchise...?

Rogue Spear 2 would have sold a lot I suppose, but I doubt that would be good for us in the end. Ubi would never dare to make any changes and we would soon have Rogue Spear 3 on our hands. Enter the funeral of the Rainbow Six franchise. I love to play Rogue Spear 2, but no way in hell would I like to see RS:RS3.

LOL! You've hit the nail on the head again. Some games are darlings of the gaming press, and no matter how "more of the same" they are, they get good reviews (Resident Evil, Doom, etc.) Other franchises get slammed even though they release decent sequels, but get decried for "more of the same" (Tomb Raider comes to mind). I think Rainbow Six is one of those franchises where sequels will have a tough time satisfying everyone.

In terms of Lockdown, I think I have made it clear that I do like the game, and I've finished the whole campaign. The graphics are great, it's easy to pick up and play casually, and the multiplayer has the potential to be as great as any previous R6 game.

IMHO, here are 3 things that dragged Lockdown down:

1) Players are forced to use Ubi.com for online multiplayer. Why not allow direct IP connections like GR? How does Ubi financially benefit from forcing people to use Ubi.com?? A side issue is still the lack of robust dedicated server support, but this never really hurt the RS/GR communities in the past.

2) Superficial mod tools. Why not open up the game with some serious modding tools so the large group of modders with GR experience can really dig into this game and produce some great mods that will extend Lockdown's shelf life?

3) Starforce copy protection - Ubi finally saw the light and dropped it for GRAW, but it was too late for Lockdown. Hope they remove Starforce with the next patch ... I would even buy a 2nd copy of the game if they release a new version without Starforce.

Ubi is scared of mods for some reason.

http://www.gametrailers.com/player.php?type=wmv&id=10948 R6:5 is mentioned here, but he really isn't allowed to say anything about it. This hush thing can't be good at all, I think they should try to encourage the fans for once.
