Here's the official announcement:
"We're proud to announce that the official PC demo of Tom Clancys Rainbow Six Lockdown is now available for download. Developed by Ubisoft's Red Storm Entertainment studio, the demo includes a single player mission (South Africa) and a multi-player map (Prison). The single player mission will let players play a 'campaign mission' on two different difficulty modes: normal or challenge as well as in co-op. The multi-player map can be played in 'Team Adversarial' game mode. There are 17 weapons available in the demo (42 will be available in the retail version), and all the equipment and grenades are available for both single and multi-player maps while the Custom Character Creation and usage is available in multi-player."
Grab the demo from any of the available download mirrors. Let us know your impressions about the demo in our forums here. |

| I'm very impressed with the demo! It has a really good feel to it. I haven't spent anytime doing multiplayer yet but it is looking promising! |

I was of the same mind Snicker (by the way..WAZZUP!?!?!), until I played multiplayer
I know it is just a demo, but the overall feel of the game just doesn't live up to the franchise, at least not in this demo. There are some promising gimmicks they added, but there is much to be desired if you are looking for a 'Tactical Shooter'. The best way I can describe it is this feels like a console port. |

TheKid: What's up man! After playing some multiplayer I've come to the same conclusion as you. It had good promise but it didn't just take it in the direction we are used to. I'm very curious about the new Ghost Recon then.
whip69: Your name is familiar but I can't remember how I know you. It's been a long time :) |

| No doubt Snicker, GRAW is something that really bothers me now...how much of it will be a console port? We shall see. |

I wonder how many people who say LD is like a console game/port honestly have tried LD on the Xbox or PS2? I'd suggest it is not fair to say this unless you've actually played through the console version (and not just for a few minutes).
Although the basis of the PC version is from the PS2, there are enough changes to the graphics, level design, weapons, gameplay to not call it a simple port (like say Halo 2 or Metal Gear Solid PC was). Also as Red Storm was working with limited time, manpower, and resources to create Lockdown PC, the results are really impressive if you consider this.
If the reason it feels like a console game is because of it's linear design, how many critically-acclaimed hit PC franchises which are also linear? Think Call of Duty, MoH, MGS, Splinter Cell, etc.
There's no doubt LD single player is not the same R6 we are used to, but in terms of "tactical" play, the game can be as tactical as you want it. When Rogue Spear came out, people were complaining it was too run and gun.
There is no reason why LD PC multiplayer can't be as good as Rogue Spear. In fact, I think the "feel" is closer to Rogue Spear than Raven Shield was.
In any case, please refer all further discussion about the demo to GB Crush's thread here: http://forums.3dretreat.com/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=6088 |
