We've been considering Frostbite the unofficial "third expansion pack" for Ghost Recon, and this mod certainly delivers! Definitely the largest and most ambitious GR mod to date, several high-profile mod makers in the GR community have combined their efforts to create this landmark mod. Check out the 10/10 review of Frostbite at GR.net here, then download the 148 MB file at our File Retreat mirror here.

| Well I gotta say, this looks like a re-install worthy mod. I gotta find my GR disk. :) |

Hi lauman, sorry to hear you got an error downloading. 1250+ other people who have downloaded Frostbite from File Retreat so far haven't reported any problems. Chances are its unlikely the problem is on our end.
The problem may have to do with trying to download such a huge file from the U.S. to Korea. Try to find a local server in Korea that is hosting the file if possible. If you're on dial-up, El Oso will send you a CD with the file if you provide a self-addressed stamped envelope :-) http://www.tacticalgames.net/frostbite/Frostbite.htm |

| This is an excellent mod. I am now beginning Mission 3. There has been a great deal of attention to detail - in Mission 2, on the ship, there is a room with a TV playing the theme to "Smokey and the Bandit", with a picture from the film on the screen. I have two very minor issues - (1) My threat indicator has disappeared. I have tried activating it via Options and manually editing the options.xml file to no avail. I use the compass portion very often (2) How do the "Specialists" get unlocked. Normally, if you accomplish all tasks, you will have a specialist unlocked. That is not the case here. I have tried starting Frostbite via the launcher and via Ghost Recon, and both have the same results (yes, I am running 1.4 and have IT and DS mission packs). |

@lauman:
You will have to download frostbite 1.1 full version. I had to remove a norwegian character from a texture name that was causing the installation to fail on Non-Engilsh versions of Windows.
@jkstexas:
The threat indicator was removed intentionally. The compass was added back in in version 1.1 You'll need to download the patch.
There are only 8 missions and I had 12 specialists. I didn't want to not include some of the specialists so it has to be this way. Specialists are only available in quick mission mode. They are automatically unlocked when you use the launcher to activate Frostbite, but are unavailable in campaign mode. |

I had the same problem with error msg: "Cannot create the following file: C:\....\Mods\Frostbite\map\damaged_radar\burnedtrevebl?$$A" My installation stops at 42% also.
But thanks to your post, it occured to me we're both asians and probably with additional asian language configured for WinXP. Add to that the squiggly characters at the end of the file name above which often occurs for non-unicode characters for asian languages support, I decided to change the "Language for Non-Unicode programs" in the "Advanced" tab of "Regional and Language options" back to "English (United States)" in Controls Panel. And to my amazement it friggin worked!!!!
Hope it works for you 2. |
