SimHQ just posted their E3 2003 report which mentions a new game commissioned by the U.S. Army. The game is called Full Spectrum Warrior, and if the in-game graphics look like they do in its trailer (download it at the bottom of this page), it will REALLY give GR2 serious competition in the next year! The trailer is a must-see for fans of military squad-based sims!
The focus of Full Spectrum Warrior is on critical tactical decision making by the Squad Leader. These decisions need to be made while under fire in tactically and politically complex MOUT (Military Operations in Urban Terrain) environments. The game is slated for release in 2004. Although SimHQ reports it is an Xbox-exclusive so far, the trailer indicates there will likely be a PC version too. Here's a snippet from SimHQ's report:Pandemic was asked by the U.S. Army three years ago to develop a game that soldiers could play and learn squad based techniques and procedures. What they showed was a trailer (available here at the bottom of this page) followed by a live demo of a two squad assault on an enemy area in a urban environment. It was stunning how good the character images, fluid motion, environment detailing and squad management was presented. See Pandemic's official site for Full Spectrum Warrior here. |

Sweet alright - damn that looks nice!
Although just to throw in a dose of reality, I am always a little suspicious of these trailers. The one for Raven Shield just released at E3 is a good case in point. Nice movie, but rappelling from a blackhawk down through the glass dome of the bank? - haven't seen that in my copy

| there are flaws in the game one is that the team lines up in a v or wedge formation with all the team members facing one way when in real life they face in all diferent directions |
