FiringSquad has posted the best preview that I have seen so far on the GeForce FX 5800 Ultra, mainly because this preview compares it head-to-head with ATI's Radeon 9700 Pro. Looks like the bottom line is that although the new GF FX wins in raw speed, ATI comes up on top with 2D visual quality, DVD playback, better FSAA and ansiotropic-filtering (up to 16x) and a much less noisy fan. And what's this about the GF FX occasionally automatically underclocking itself? Doesn't look too good ...
Glad that reviews these days look at more than just raw speed, and unless Nvidia makes some big changes, ATI's Radeon series looks like it takes the lead in overall performance. |
