So last weekend I was finally tired of using VMware for emulating Linux on my main system, and I took my other computer cleaned off win2k server and put on Red Hat 8.0 on it.
So far it’s been really fun to mess around with and get use to it. I’ve used Linux in the past, but now I REALLY get to mess around with it since I have a whole system that’s running Linux instead of a system not entirely dedicated to it.
For my grad project (WIDS) I’ll be doing a lot of shell programming, so now it’s going to be perfect that I have my Linux box all ready to go. The goal for this server (easy stuff) is to get Apache updated and running, install and run an FTP server, and then hopefully run and SQL server for some database stuff I would like to do soon.
So far I got the Apache web server running:

I’ve really been doing other stuff besides getting apache going and the ftp server going, so I have yet to even start configuring my server to get the ftp server going.
So basically the whole weekend I was sitting in front of my computers reading, and soaking up as much info as I can about Linux, Shell Programming and other Linux related stuff…
