 Problems installing 1.2b(euro).....please advise.		  New Topic  Reply to Topic

Hi all...

Im having major problems trying to patch my game to 1.2b(euro).

The game itself installed without any problems....and the 1.1 patch installs as it should.(I only tried the 1.1 after many failures with 1.2 and 1.2b...which i downloaded from various sources).

I have all the latest drivers for my system.....as i even went to the extremes of totally wiping my hard drive incase a mystery virus was interfering with the patch install.....but sadly after 6 hours of returning my system to its former glory the wretched patch still will not install.

I`ll try to describe what goes wrong with 1.2b patch.

I activate the patch "setup.exe" and things at this stage work as normal.....ie...i get the "choose your language" window....after selecting my language i obviously click "next"....but this is where things go wrong.

The rest of the patch setup becomes visually distorted.The outline of the setup window is still visible but inside the setup window clones whatever is on my desktop.....resulting in me being unable to see the buttons to carry on the install.After much messing around i was able to guess where the "next" button was...enabling me to move onto the next part of the installation......the actual patching process then totally locks up my system and i have to reboot.
I also noticed in my Splinter cell folder a file appears called "PATCH.ERR" that is 0kb.(after installing 1.1 i got a patch readme and so on...none of that appears with 1.2....just that patch error file appears.)

The game runs fine in version 1.0 or 1.1....but like everyone else i wish to gain the benefits received by installing 1.2b.

Please help me.

ps...is there anyway i can trick the game into thinking i have the US version?...therefore being able to try the US patch instead?

Granted its a pretty crud system nowadays but like i say the game runs fine...its the patch im having trouble with. :(

Your hardware should run Splinter Cell fine. I played SC on a GF3. If everything else on your computer is running fine, it's likely a problem with the patch.

What is the language you are chosing? What language version of Windows ME are you using? There may be conflicts there. Try the workaround for a similar issue with the GR Frostbite patch found in this forum post here:

Also, WinME is notorious for being a very unstable OS. If you're going to reformat again, I'd advise running Win98 SE or better yet, WinXP if it's possible.
