On behalf of the staff at R6 Retreat, we wish all our readers a Happy New Year! On the R6 front, 2005 saw new releases for both the console and PC. Console gamers got the next-gen Lockdown game which saw Red Storm return as the primary dev studio behind the Rainbow franchise. PC gamers got a nice surprise with the release of the free Rainbow Six 3 expansion pack: Iron Wrath developed by the relatively low-profile Ubisoft Casablanca studio in Morocco.
2006 will see Team Rainbow's long-awaited return to the PC! I am particularly looking forward to Lockdown PC as it marks the return of the direct successor of the original Rainbow Six/Rogue Spear engine to the PC after a 3-year absence (i.e. The Sum of All Fears and Island Thunder in 2002)! Red Storm has outfitted its engine with all the bells and whistles of current DirectX 9 games, so we will see if R6 PC has aged gracefully with time.
There's also a very good chance we will get an announcement about a Lockdown expansion and/or Rainbow Six 5 this year. This site now enters its 9th straight year of bringing you all the latest and greatest news about the Rainbow Six franchise. |
