With LCD monitor prices coming down, widescreen gaming is becoming more affordable. I recently bought a Dell UltraSharp 2005FPW 20" widescreen LCD (1680x1050 native resolution, 16:10 ratio) on sale to replace a damaged monitor in my office, and I was pleasantly surprised and impressed that GR1 PC has native support for widescreen gaming!

It appears that GR detects the supported screen resolutions for the installed monitor and allows for those resolutions in the Options menu. It is very impressive that Red Storm engineers implemented this feature so many years ago before widescreen monitors even showed up on the horizon.

This fact is even more impressive when you see some recent major titles like Battlefield 2 don't natively support widescreen without hacks. With GR:AW Xbox 360 playing on 16:9 HDTV screens, hopefully GR:AW PC will also have native widescreen support.

For more information on widescreen gaming, check out WideScreenGamingForum.com.

**UPDATE: Check here for info about Rogue Spear's native support for widescreen gaming!

Yep, I play GR at res 1920 x 1200 on a DELL 2405, it's simply beautiful.
Takes a while though to get used to the large screen and the new range of mouse movements etc, i.e., had to change sensitivity on my Razor Diamondback a lot
I do hope WS will be supported in GRAW! It would be very disappointing if it didn't... I bet WS will be the standard monitor for gamers in just a couple of years. WS gaming is definitely the future!

Welcome to our forums Peace! Thanks for your comments. I agree that similar to TV's going widescreen (16:9), computer monitors/games will too :-)

Get ready for more droolage: looks like Dell has plans to come out with a 30" LCD monitor: the UltraSharp 3007WFP with a resolution of 2560 x 1600!

Ty (was linked in via www.ghostrecon.net) and felt your post needed some attention. Seems like the GR community mainly still use the non-WS...

Yea, the 30" WS, looks awfully nice, but I guess the graphics card you need to keep up with the native resolution needs to be the very top end too...$$$!!!

No doubt the WS will come to dominate soon. Prices are dropping (as usual) and the extra width of the screen is really useful for work (Word, Excel processing etc)
The 24" DELL 2405 FPW currently goes for $959.20, and the 20" DELL 2005 FPW for $492.15...
Boyz and girlz time to give yourself a nice X-mas present!

By the way, it simply stunns me that new games like BF2 does not support WS in it in native res. ..)-:
