Thanks to Kurtz in this GR.net forum thread for pointing out XboxAddict has published a detailed interview with GR2's Heather Chandler (Producer) and Christian Allen (Designer). Here's a summary of the brand-new info:The way that mission briefings are given is radically different, and allows you to get to know your team of Ghosts. In multiplayer, the host will have the ability to lock out the first-person or third-person "over-the-shoulder" view so that everyone is playing the same way. Although Red Storm is focusing on a new group of Ghosts for GR2, at least one specialist from GR1 will be back to play a prominent roll in the game’s campaign. (Any guesses who?)

For certain levels, you can choose to go through them slow and stealthy or fast and lethal. (The example given was an objective where you have to make your way to a helo extraction through an area crawling with enemies.)GR2 will allow you to "layer" your team orders. E.g. you can have your team hold their fire and then flank the enemy. Some fan-favorite GR1 maps will be ported to GR2!The improved team AI will now let your teammates fire anti-tank weapons which was not possible in GR1.For the Xbox, GR2 will have a score-based unlocking system. Unlocked content will may include "blooper" movies from the game, interviews with team members, or other types of DVD-style content. In addition to GR2 supporting Xbox Live 3.0 features, players can pick from a selection of skins/uniforms offered by a host.Splitscreen multiplayer will be possible over both Xbox Live and System Link.Red Storm is working with members of the French, German, and British militaries to ensure that game’s depictions of their equipment and gear is accurate. |

Great interview and lots of real substance. Liked eveything I read, especially about importing GR maps to GR 2, improved AI and a layered order system. SWAT 3 had a good menu system, I like the way you can order squads to move to a certain location in BIA by using the cursor. I wonder if you can place the squad like that in GR 2. |

Thanks for the insightful comments Kurtz.

Here's my take on your question: In GR1, you could divide your "team" of Ghosts into 3 "elements" comprised of 1-3 Ghosts in an element. (Not sure if I'm using the proper military terminology, but I hope everyone gets what I mean.) I have a feeling that Red Storm made the decision to replace the "element" with just an "individual" soldier.
So for example, when setting up an ambush on an enemy: instead of placing 3 elements around the enemy, you instead place 4 soldiers around them. In a way, GR2 may have more flexibility than GR1 in this regard.
Of course it would be great if we could have 4 elements with 2-3 soldiers each, but I think in GR2's case, the limiting factor is the Xbox CPU power for processing all that AI. |

I would like to see some footage of this order system and how it works in game. When you order your squad to flank, do you tell them where to go, if not, how do they know where to go and when to stop, do they use cover, can you order each man, do they know enough to flank without being seen and not engage. I have seen nothing to know how any of this works. Also, show how the squad will use a mounted weapon or take out a tank. How does air support work? How do you layer commands. There has been too much 1 man footage, time for some more thoughtful footage. |
