We were wondering why we had over 5000 unique visitors a day for several weeks, and then we realized that the official SC website was linking to our recent post about new Pandora Tomorrow info in the Official Xbox Magazine! We apologize to visitors if they came here expecting more info than we had at the time (which was just a picture of the magazine cover :-) but we hope to make up for it in this mega-post with a round-up of all the SC:PT news-to-date!
The following is a summary of new info about Pandora Tomorrow that has appeared in print magazines and online over the past month:The Official Xbox Magazine states SC:PT will appear on all consoles, but the Xbox is once again the main development console and will likely have the best-looking version. One major difference will be the inclusion of multiplayer gameplay. Multiplayer modes will likely include co-op stealth missions that utilize the Xbox Communicator headset over Xbox Live. The July 2003 issue of PSM gives some details that multiplayer support on the PS2 version will be available using the PS2 online adapter. In single player, the story continues where SC1 left off. In SC:PT, Third Echelon is experimenting with infiltration operations that require small "shadow net" cells, so it looks like Sam Fisher will have some new company. There are hints about a female operative. The new storyline is being developed by J.T. Petty, who also wrote the story for SC1.
New locations will include more open areas, daytime maps, and more civilians walking around for Sam to avoid. Screenshots show jungle settings, and a submarine drydock.New gadgets are hinted at, and the binoculars from the PS2 version of SC1 will be now standard issue on the Xbox. The graphics will be further updated, including perhaps a new visual mode distinct from thermal and night vision.Engine improvements include better physics (as in object manipulation and "ragdoll" body physics). Sam will likely acquire a few new stealth and attack moves.Xbox fans jealous of the improved cinematics in the PS2 version will be happy to hear SC:PT will have more in-game cinematics. Although Pandora Tomorrow is a full game (i.e. not just an expansion pack), and will actually be longer and more complex than SC1, it is not considered to be the true "Splinter Cell 2". (Perhaps because it is still largely based on the SC1 engine?)A full Splinter Cell 2 sequel will likely be announced early next year, and the Official Xbox Magazine claims they will have an exclusive on it when the time comes.GameSpot has reported that Ubi's annual report states Pandora Tomorrow is slated for a March 2004 release date. |
