Since E3, we've been following news about Full Spectrum Warrior, which may be giving GR2 some healthy competition. WorthPlaying has uploaded a whopping 505MB zipped QuickTime video which is definitely worth a look for those of you with broadband.
The video plays at a relatively huge 640x480 resolution and features over 14 minutes of in-game footage with an in-depth gameplay description of the E3 demo by FSW's Project Lead, William Stahl. This E3 demo gives us the best taste yet of FSW's unique gameplay and graphics.

| I watched this demo a couple days ago and I must say that it looks pretty sweet. However I am not really into this type of genre. I wish they coulda merged these features and graphics into a FPS. There is just something about squeezing those shots off yourself. :) |

Yeh exactly what I was thinking as I was watching it, the game looks awesome, but there's *gasp* no "take aim and shoot" ?
It's purely tactical? Are there any other Tactical Shooters like this, or is this a new thing? |

| I reveiwed the full spectrum demo vid and I think its going to be a hit on the shelves in 2004. The graphic's are good, it follows the methods of modern military (ie...U.S. Rangers, Special Forces) and there tactic's that they use on the battle field in Urban warfare. The first two posts do have a point, where's the fun in having FPS veiws to direct yourself to kill the ememy? You can move you solider in place to cover the rear or at any position to cover just be directing the soliders movements and giving the order the fire on command..... Oh well... Ghost Recon will never die, I'll buy Full Spectrum Warrior for the realizim of the United States Military Soliders and for THQ for making a awsome game that follows the Modern solider... But Ghost Recon will always be an awsome FPS game to come. (Thats only if THQ make Full spectrum an FPS Option to make it even more interesting..... Now there's a game to forward too) |

From the video, it looks like the AI will control all the shooting. The player is mainly there to position the soldiers.
Many previews have hailed FSW as creating a new "genre" of tactical sim, but I would say it's not really a "new thing" ... you already have the option to play the Ghost and Rainbow games exactly the same way by only using the command map/planning stage to move your troopers around and let the AI do all the targetting. If you look at it this way, GR and R6 give the extra gameplay of controlling an individual trooper as well as controlling things on a squad level.
However, FSW is attractive for having nice graphics, a more "urban" feel than the majority of rural settings in the GR series (although GR does include several outstanding urban maps), and an innovative "on-the-fly" command interface which may or may not be as awkward as toggling to the command map in GR. |

| Like I said, this game would rock if they combined the current features (On the fly commands) with the ability to control a squad leader in FPV. IMHO. :) |
