For all you hardware junkies, Ace's Hardware has once again put up a very informative article on how the current fastest Intel and AMD platforms perform on the benchmarks that really count: not synthetic programs like 3DMark (though they have their use), but real games!
Of interest to us is they run some GR benchmarks on these two platforms. Here's a snippet:Ghost Recon excels in detailed shadows and enemy AI, which are both very processor intensive. The error margin of our Ghost Recon benchmark is very low (1%), with very repeatable benchmark scores. [...] Ghost Recon seems to love a faster memory subsystem, as the 3 GHz 800 MHz FSB [126.5 fps] is no less than 18% than it's older brother [P4 3.06 GHz 533 MHz FSB gives 106.9 fps]. As the Pentium 4 already outperformed the Athlon by a decent margin [Athlon XP 3200+ gives 86.9 fps], the difference between the Athlon and the Pentium 4 is rather dramatic. |
