We're impressed and excited that Red Storm has once again hit their projected release date with their latest title, Island Thunder. Here are some excerpts from the press release: SAN FRANCISCO, CA - September 19, 2002: Ubi Soft Entertainment is delighted to announce that the title Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon: Island Thunder has reached Gold Master Status.
The Ghosts, an elite team of U.S. Army Green Berets, are sent to Cuba in 2009 as part of a UN peacekeeping force to destroy the drug funded rebel forces and their mercenary leaders and secure the elections for a free Cuba.
Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon: Island Thunder ships on PC CD ROM on September 25, 2002 within the United States. MSRP $19.99.

Yo transcendentnb2, usually when games go through the development process, there are milestones that the dev team wants to hit by a certain time to keep things on track. You have probably heard the terms "alpha" and "beta" version. The gold master is the final version of code that gets burned on a CD (perhaps a gold colored one? ;-) and sent off for reproduction and packaging.
So to answer your question, gold master status is the state of the game code that gets reproduced and appears on the store shelf. Of course these days, this may need patching later on ... |
