I have got a hold of the r6_string_table.txt files for both the US and UK versions of Black Thorn as references for a little project I'm doing to update our Team RAINBOW FAQ. Here are some picky little details for those of you who might be interested ...
Although all the dates and times of each of the nine Black Thorn campaign missions are exactly the same, I noticed four of the mission locations are different in the US and UK versions.
Cruise Ship - US: Naples, Italy; UK: Tunis, Tunisia
African Village - US: Malawi-Zambia border; UK: Loyada, Djibouti Train Station - US: Enschede, Netherlands; UK: Halfweg, Holland Bus/Airport Terminal - US: Cape Town, South Africa; UK: Mombasa, Kenya
Further investigation shows more evidence that those with the UK version have got more of what Black Thorn was originally intended to be, and the location intel in the US version was further modified. How do we know this?
We have posted about the Bus/Airport Terminal issue before, and how the satellite map in the US version still points to Kenya instead of South Africa. Also, the US version's "news report" after the African Village mission still mentions the town "Loyada" although there is no town near Malawi or Zambia by that name.
Note that the Tunisia, Djibouti, and Kenya locations in the UK version are all the same as where actual events occurred, but strangely the Halfweg location in the UK version is different from the actual Enschede location which is used in the US version. I figure in this case, the location was modified for the UK version because the intel indicates the location is "near the German border" and Enschede is much closer to the German border than Halfweg. |
