Pappy has helped me load up a couple R6-related files onto File Retreat that may be of interest to some of you R6 newcomers. We have posted about these files before, but we're putting them on our server for easier access and also archival purposes.
The first is a video of the deleted Black Thorn airplane mission (the "original" BT01) made by Belgian site GameShrimp. It is a good look at what the level looked like in the beta version of BT.
The next is the long lost PC Gamer map made by Red Storm for the original Rainbow Six. Most of you R6 vets have seen it, but it has long been taken down from the official PC Gamer site, and we have found a new home for it on File Retreat cuz there's still people discovering R6! Note that this map is multiplayer only. (As far as I know, no one has ever modded it into a single player mission.)

When is someone going to mod the original airport map from the UK version and release it to us in the US?Honestly I can't believe they changed the map for us in the US, you see we WANT to gun down terrorists in the airports over here. In the airports, in the streets, in their homes, over in Iraq, in Afghanistan, in Syria, Turkey, and the various ex-Russian republics. We don't care where, so long as it's not a retarded bus terminal.

Alex:"When is someone going to mod the original airport map from the UK version and release it to us in the US?" I think you misunderstood, or I wasn't clear: the UK version of BT also only has 9 maps. The airplane hostage rescue map was ALSO removed from the UK version. What I meant in the earlier news post is that BT's original airport *terminal* map has been kept the same in the UK version, but it was changed into a bus station in the US version. Thus, NO version of BT has the original airport map. Even if someone got the files for the original airplane hostage rescue map, it would be illegal if they published it without expressed permission from Ubi Soft, since it's Ubi's intellectual property. ------------------- JClark: "How do they make the video files, camcorder then d/l to the computer?? Many thanx in advance." I believe you are right: they likely hook up a digital video camcorder to the video output of their computer's graphics card to film the in-game action, while using the camcorder's microphone to record their comments. Then they upload the video back onto the hard drive (likely using FireWire) and use a video editing program to edit the final version of the video. BTW, that's how Red Storm did the intro videos for the R6 series too, with a modified executable that let RSE employees "control" the actions of the tangos.

That's a great idea. I thought it was cool that Ubi Montreal put that Chinook in BT04. Maybe the next time they can use a Black Hawk or PaveLow helicopter (like in the novel).Actually, Greg Stelmack talked about the issue of helicopter insertions and extractions in the RSE forums long ago. He said that RSE had considered it, but the amount of work to put them in was not worth it because it was only seconds at the beginning and end of a mission, and does not affect gameplay. The UO intro was done by RSE artist Thomas DeVries, and he used a few video editing tricks to have the RAINBOW troopers appear in the helicopter. That helicopter image was NOT a 3D model, but rather a 2D image that he expertly manipulated :-)
